Valentine’s Day is around the corner, love is in the air, and I really want you to think about God’s love this month. How God loves us so much He gave His only son to die for you and me, and all He asks of us is that we love others and be His love letter to everyone …our families, our friends, co-workers, and acquaintances.
Scripture says:
“Dear Friends,” since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and His love is brought to full expression in us. And God has given us His Spirit as proof that we live in Him and He in us. Furthermore, we have seen with our own eyes and now testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. All who confess that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. We KNOW how much God loves us and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the Day of Judgment, but we can face Him with confidence because we LIVE like JESUS here in this world. (1 John 4:11-18)
The Bible describes Love this way:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the TRUTH. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a).
If you see this kind of love in a human life, you have seen God revealed in one who KNOWS Him. You see someone who is a love letter of God’s love.
So how do others read you? The Bible says: Are we beginning to praise ourselves again?
1Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. 3You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. (2 Corinthians 3: 1-3)
Wow! This is so beautifully written and easily understood. Basically, what do others see in us? Do they see Christ’s Love? Are people drawn to you because you love them? Are people drawn to you because they see Christ’s Love in you? Or because you live differently than the rest of the world does and you are not afraid to live like Christ did? Our character should reflects what is written on the tablets of our hearts.
Mother Teresa said:
“It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.”
So I challenge you to be God’s love letter to those you love and to those you don’t know in practical ways.
Service to others– a smile or a simple hi to a stranger, take a meal to a neighbor, visit your local senior place.
Service to your family– Every meal prepared, every piece of clothing washed, every room tidied, every floor swept, every ride given is love in action.
God wants us to be His love letters to world. Are you up to the challenge?
