Exchanging a Thud for Hope this Christmas

Christmas always began with a thud when I was growing up. This happened several weeks before December 25, when the Sears Christmas Wish book arrived at our home. With great delight, my brother, sister and I welcomed this mail delivery, but as soon as the catalog arrived, the fighting began. We all wanted it and we wanted it that very instance. When we finally got the book, each of us would spend hours making a list (including catalog number and page number) of all the gifts we expected under the ... continue reading...

The Story of the Radio Flyer Red Sled {and a cute DIY ornament)

Let me share with you one of my favorite memories in my Christmas Treasury and some nostalgia to kindle your Christmas Spirit. It was 1974, I was 8 years old when I received a real Radio Flyer metal sled. This sled became one of my most coveted gifts as a child. Transient Traditions

I grew up in the same small town where my dad was raised… and his parents… and their parents. And when I was in kindergarten my mom’s parents moved into town as well. Tradition wasn’t something I needed to look very far to find. We had Sunday dinners at my Grandma’s house, birthday celebrations that included both sets of grandparents and other extended family, and more holiday celebrations than time. My small (2000 people), midwestern hometown also had traditions of its own, the annual festival ... continue reading...

Celebrating Advent with Your Family This Year

Remnants of the Thanksgiving season draw to a close. We tidy up our kitchens and houses, say goodbye to loved ones and put away the last dishes of the Thanksgiving meal. With gratitude in our hearts, we start to look forward to the upcoming Christmas season. As parents, we know that the Christmas season holds more joy and wonderment than all the rest of the year combined. It is a time of hope, trust, and asking for what we truly desire. It is also a time of giving, miracles, church attendance ... continue reading...
