Parenting Spiritual Growth

Every Season Has a Purpose

Every year in the month of September, I love the magical changing colors of the leaves covering the landscape in shades of amber, brown, rust, and golden honey. It’s also the time when I settle into shorter days and the fall routines of school, Bible study, and work.

It is a time of year that brings back wonderful memories of when my daughter went to kindergarten. I remember this being quite traumatic, but maybe it was because she was my only child. As the summer progressed, Tiffany was really excited about school starting, and I was too – thinking maybe I could actually keep my house clean and accomplish something productive. I thought I had it all under control, until that first day.

As I prepared to leave Tiffany at her classroom, I hugged her and asked for a kiss. She immediately kissed my cheek and said, “Mommy, who is going to play with you, or go to lunch or read a book with you?” That was when the emotions really got going. I quickly encouraged her to find her seat, and assured her she would have a great day and that Mommy was fine – but really I wasn’t! It took several minutes in the school parking lot for me to regain my composure.

Then I met a group of moms for coffee. Two had also taken their youngest to kindergarten, one had taken her fourth child to the first day of junior high, and two moms had seen their oldest off to high school. Yikes! Talk about all being in different seasons!

Looking around that table got me thinking (I’m sure the caffeine helped, too), and it reminded me that this is exactly what our lives are about.

We simply move from one season to another, depending on where God has us in life. The only thing that doesn’t change is the fact that we will always keep changing seasons.

As we enter a new school season and Fall slowly shows its colors there are so many emotions! We will experience a lot of seasons in our lifetime; some will be filled with joy and anticipation, others with longing or sadness, testing of our faith. Our job is to live in God’s presence through every season...

We will experience a lot of seasons in our lifetime; some will be filled with joy and anticipation, others with longing or sadness, testing of our faith. Our job is to live in God’s presence through every season.

The happy ones enable us to experience His goodness and blessings. The tough seasons teach us about God’s faithfulness when we remain close to Him during hard times.

Whatever season you find yourself it today embrace what God is doing in your life. Know that there is a purpose under heaven for this particular season!

Blessings,

Sandra
