February is always considered the month of Love. So it is the perfect time to talk about the heart from which our love flows.
Let me ask you…..
What is in your heart?
It is easy to allow our hearts to be distracted. I may love a certain book, latest hairdo or even the latest fashion I saw in this month’s fashion magazines! And my attachments aren’t always toward material things. I can also be enamored with people and places, too.
The word “love” in Nelson’s Bible Dictionary says:
“Love is the high esteem that He has for His children and the high regard which we, in turn, should have for Him and other people.”
Because of the hundreds of references to love in the Bible it is certainly the most remarkable book of love in the world. The bible records the greatest love story ever written—God’s unconditional love for us that sent His Son to dies on the cross. (John 3:16)
Love is not just one of God’s attributes; it is the essential part of His nature.
I am learning that it will be easier to love God with all my heart if I guard my heart from running after everything that may hold an attraction for me.
What is in your heart?
Solomon tells us in Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.”
If we don’t guard our hearts from chasing everything that awakens our interest, it will be a surefire way to distract us from God’s best. Distractions are an everyday test which affect everything we do.
When we trust in Him and focus on the truth of His promises, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard (our) hearts and (our) minds in Christ Jesus”. (Phil. 4:7, NKJV)
A pure, uncluttered heart leads to a closer relationship with God. Protecting our hearts will prevent us from being distracted by the “stuff and loves” of this world.
Let’s think this month how we can guard our hearts from the things that distract and keep us from the One whose love is pure and good.
XO,
Sandra
