Are you like me and love to say YES to everything that is fun during the Christmas Season? Parties, children’s plays, movies, baking, shopping and decorating your home. Do you overbook yourself and feel exhausted?
I’m always reminded about the story in the bible about Mary and Martha.
As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 4But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” Luke 10:38-40 (NLT)
God has so much to say to us in our morning quite times, bible study class or in a church sermon…but we fill our schedules with so much busyness we forget to sit with Him during this time of year.
In this story, Mary and Martha invite Jesus over for dinner. Mary spent her evening sitting at Jesus’s feet listening to His every word. Martha the doer, was busy being a hostess and worrying about whether her place looked presentable and what was being served to eat. I can relate to this story so much since I’m a doer!
I love what Jesus tells her when she gets upset at her sister Mary for just sitting and doing nothing. He said…
My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 (NLT)
If you are a busy doer remember this…what really matters is time spent with our Heavenly Father. All the time you spent working, preparing your home or food won’t matter! Spending time with Jesus will.
Christmas season is a wonderful time of the year… so prepare your home, wrap your presents for your loved ones. Keep your traditions and make new memories with your family. But don’t let this season pass you by without spending a few moments at Jesus feet. After all we are celebrating His wonderful birth!
Have a great Christmas Season!
Love,
Sandra
