This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9
Love is in the air! Can you feel it? Do you see it? One can hardly escape the displays of red and pink hearts and cupids that adorn the windows of storefronts and homes. A mere glance at television commercials and magazine ads reminds us of the upcoming obligatory celebration of love coming our way.
Valentine’s Day…. For some of us, this day brings flowers and candy, romance and excitement. For others, however, this day brings dashed hopes and disappointment. While I understand why we have come to celebrate this holiday and it does remind us to spend a day in showing the love we feel for others, I am also aware that not everyone will feel loved on Valentine’s Day. I am reminded of my own season of loneliness, when I was single and Valentine’s Day felt like a slap on the cheek.
Perhaps you have not had this same season in your own life, but have you ever been disappointed on Valentine’s Day? I am sure I am not the only woman who has allowed the excitement and build-up to create a desire for a display of love that turned out to be an unrealistic expectation!
Regardless of the situation you find yourself in on February 14, you are fully and deeply loved. Just remember, God loves you! And he sent the most amazing Valentine, the most incredible display of love that makes dozens of roses and boxes of chocolates look like grains of sand against a mountain.
The Bible verse above is your own personal Valentine, sent from the creator of love itself. Read it out loud, putting your name in as your personal love statement from God. And enjoy Valentine’s Day like never before!
