It is the most significant, demanding, underpaid and often unrecognized profession around. However here’s the thing – it’s not “a job” it’s a calling. The significance of a mother in your life and in your emotional and personal development can never be over stated. Without mothers, there are no great men and women.

Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother.”

God gave you a mother to protect, nurture, and mature you.  Whether you are a mother through birth, a stepmom or adoption, God desires for you to seek His will and His ways. I strongly believe that God ordained the significance and importance of motherhood. Throughout the Bible we see the recurrent theme of “Honor your Father and Mother.”

There is no greater endeavor than to be entrusted with the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health of another human being. Mothering is the most noble of all callings and is truly a gift from God.

God’s desire for every Mother is to teach her children to seek Him follow His plan for their life.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”(KJV).

This means being intentional about studying His word. “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”(Philippians 4:8)

God also desires Mother’s to be wise and build their homes where love is fostered, creativity is nurtured, and where the heart can blossom and flourish. Wisdom does not come from the internet, cable, blogs, magazines, or podcasts. Godly wisdom comes from the daily moments that you spend in your quiet time with Him.

Your children will learn this through your relationship with others and by your attitude, tone, words, behavior, and service to your family and friends. “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”(Proverbs 24:3)

God desires for women to create a home where His love, mercy, grace, hope, inspiration, and faith is felt. In one word, it’s a home that all would describe as “warm.” He desires for Mother’s to understand that His love is never-ending, and even during those “challenging” seasons of motherhood – He is there.

The Bible says “Whoever walks with the wise will become wise.”(Proverbs 13:20) If you’re a young mother, then find some “wiser”mothers or mentors who can speak into your life and support your journey. By surrounding yourself with godly women, who have more life experience, you are setting yourself up for spiritual and person growth. (Plus they might help with those stinky diapers every once in awhile). *wink*

The influence of a mother upon the lives of her children cannot be measured. Mothers have saved nations. (Ester 4:10-16). Mothering is the creative majesty of life. It is God’s gift to us, and your gift back to Him.  To all of you precious Mother’s, may your hearts be rejuvenated, your minds refreshed, and may you walk in His wisdom as you teach and guide those sweet little ones to grow and know His voice.

Blessings,

Dr. Christy

For those that are interested in reading more from Dr. Christy, she recently came out with a book called The Ripple Effect. Essentially, this book is about the importance of looking at God’s word, to receive truth, before making life altering decisions. It is true that we reap what we sow.
